I'm Howard. I created Burning Bush Adventures while I was in rabbinical school. That was in 1989. The seed for the idea was actually planted years before while I was working for Outward Bound.

I noticed that along with the personal growth our students experienced there was also a lot of wrestling with existential, religious and spiritual questions. Thus was born the idea of a program that would consciously attend to the body and soul during a wilderness trip

After completing my rabbinic training I moved Burning Bush Adventures to Vermont and began offering canoe trips during the summer and dog sled trips during the winter.  At the same time I was also involved with leading a small Jewish congregation.

For as long as I can remember going into the wilderness is where I've most often and powerfully experienced the divine presence.  You can get insight into the thinking that goes into a Burning Bush Adventure by taking a look at some of the different wilderness books I reviewed.  If you click on Wilderness Wisdom it will take you to quotes that I've collected on spirit, soul and wilderness.

As a rabbi my teachers include not only many of the great Jewish thinkers throughout the ages, but also people like John Muir, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau and Rachel Carson, to name just a few.

Every Burning Bush Adventure trip is an experience that points beyond words and conventional imagery to bring you into closer contact with the divine force that pulsates throughout everything in our world.
